Seoul City Guide
Daehangno: The Cultural Centre
The area of Daehangno contains entertainment that tourists can enjoy at any time of the year. The abundance of theatres means you can watch both experimental and traditional Korean pieces. The visual splendour of the plays allows you to enjoy the work even if you do not understand the language. The Drawing Show is an example of these theatrical extravaganzas as the performers create pictures for their audiences on stage. This bohemian area also has many buskers and outdoor entertainment which you can enjoy free of charge. Along the streets you will also find many coffee shops where you can sit and listen to the city’s buzz with a hot drink and cake.
Hongik University
If you want to find the best nightlife within the city, head down to the streets that surround Hongik University. This is where Seoul’s younger generation hangs out and is therefore filled with entertainment to coincide with this age group. Here you can see a band or dance the night away in one of the many clubs that line the streets. There are also many retail stores where you can discover Korean fashion and purchase some of the unusual items. As this is a student area, you can guarantee that the prices will be cheap and affordable.
Myeong-dong
Myeong-dong is one of the most popular shopping districts within Seoul. Here you can find unique fashions as well as cosmetics which aren’t available within the UK. Due to the wide array of new merchandise, the shopping area is popular with tourists who are looking for a bargain. Myeong-dong is also a great place for cuisine. The famous dish of Kalguksu, where noodles are placed within a vegetable soup broth, has citizens and tourists coming back to the district time and time again.
Samcheong-dung
Samcheong-dong is a great place to enjoy both shopping and Korea’s culture. The relaxed atmosphere of the district means that you can stroll through the beautiful streets and enjoy its architecture. This district is popular with females visitors as there are many individual boutiques which specialise in accessories and jewellery. There are also cafes and restaurants that you can retreat to and enjoy traditional Korean cuisine once you finish your shopping trip.
Jimjilbang
If you want a break from the bustling atmosphere that dominates within Seoul, the Jimjilbangs are perfect for a quiet retreat away from the city life. This is a great way to experience the quieter aspects of Korean culture as many citizens visit the areas to relax and unwind. The Hanjeungmak (steam rooms) will help to rejuvenate you after a visit to the night clubs and shopping districts. Many Jimjilbangs also have swimming pools where you can relax and swim within the tranquil waters.
