Legazpi City Guide

The city of Legazpi has an abundance of enchanting natural sites which tourists love to explore; Mayon is the most famous location as tourists can see the cone-shaped volcano for miles around. Legazpi also has many vibrant towns and cities which contain cultural and historical attractions for tourists to delve into and explore.

Natural Sites

The Mayon Volcano is the Philippines’ most active and tumultuous volcano. It is also considered to be the world’s most perfectly formed volcano as a result of its symmetrical shape. The Lignon Hill, located behind the Albay Park and Wildlife centre, has the best views across the Mayon Volcano. As this is the highest point within the city, you can also enjoy panoramic views across the rest of Legazpi and its surrounding forestry.

The Misibis resort in Donsol catches the attention of many tourists due to its unique attraction. This site has the world’s largest migration of whale sharks; you can spot multitudes of these exotic creatures on the surrounding beaches. The Albay Park and Wildlife centre is another establishment where you can observe exotic animals. The centre houses over 347 animals and 75 different species; this is an ideal place to enjoy with the entire family. There is also a picnic grove and park where you can enjoy a relaxing meal whilst being surrounded by the Philippines’ exotic plant life.

Tourist Spots

Embarcadero is a large waterfront development which is enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. The area gives you the opportunity to enjoy a rich retail and leisure experience due to its wide range of restaurants, shops and markets. The Embarcadero also functions as a promenade where performances and shows are put on throughout the day and evening hours. There is also waterfront hotel and spa under construction at the moment, staying at this accommodation would mean that you could be close to the action at all times. The Embarcadero is the perfect place to spend an entire day with the family; you are sure to be kept busy as there are a wide array attractions and establishments to enjoy.

The Ibalong Festival is an extremely popular non-religious event within the Bicol area. The festival tells the epic stories of ancient heroes; there are street parades where people wear masks and costumes to imitate the heroes and villains from famous Bicol battles. Tourists are extremely welcome during this period within August and are encouraged to join in with the merriments.

There are also a number of cultural spots which are popular with visitors to Legazpi. The Magayon Art Gallery is home to a variety of different art works including traditional Philippine pieces. The Legazpi City Museum allows tourists to delve into the area’s history; as this is the only museum within Legazpi, it is definitely worth a visit.

City Developments

As Legazpi is becoming increasingly popular with tourists, the city is proposing to build an international airport so that it is easier for people to visit. The airport will be located in Barangay Alobo (in the neighbouring region of Daraga) so that tourists can visit more areas within the Philippines. This will boost tourism and the economy within Legazpi and its surrounding districts and will provide tourists within the opportunity to visit the hidden gems which the Philippines have on offer.
