The Czech Republic is a historic town filled with an abundance of ancient buildings with period features. While this may be a small country, there are plenty of thing to see during your trip. There are medieval towns, exquisite castles and vast national parks – all of which will keep you entertained for an entire holiday.

Sightseeing in the Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has a number of castles from different periods in time. Visiting these ancient establishments will allow you to learn about a range of historical eras that took place in the Czech Republic. The Karlstejn was built during the 14th century and has an exterior that resembles a Disney castle. There is also the Vranov which sits upon the top of a rock pinnacle, allowing you to enjoy panoramic views across its surrounding city.

The Cesky Krumlov is another must-see tourist spot, and is known as the prettiest town within the entire Czech Republic. It is a World Heritage site, and its status truly reflects the exquisite beauty you will find within. You can stroll around the medieval cobbled streets and the banks of the Vltava River. The town also has a castle, which visitors can explore on their trip to the area.

What to do

There are plenty of outdoor activities to get involved in during your holiday to the Czech Republic. This is because the country has plenty of green outdoor space and vast areas of countryside.  You can go cycling along the South Moravian vineyards –  take in the breathtaking views across the rolling hills and even stop for a wine-testing sessions in the neighbouring villages of Mikulov and Valtice.

You could also go fishing by the lakes of South Bohemia and Lednice-Valtice. Join in with the locals by enjoying a day by the water, and attempt to catch such fish as carp, tench, perch and pike.

Going hiking is another popular tourist activity as the Czech Republic provides the perfect backdrop for an afternoon outside. Walk around the Aumava Forest, which is the largest national park within the country. This skirts the border of Austria and tourists can walk along the hills, visit the trout streams, delve into the forest and even explore historical monuments.

Activities for adrenaline junkies

The Czech Republic has a number of different ski resorts, which have slopes for both beginners and intermediates. You can try Spindleruv Mlyn for downhill skiing, Zacler for snowboarding and then Zadov for cross country. Each resort offers great natural views across snowy and evergreen landscapes, as well as small cafes and restaurants where you can warm up after a day of exercise.

The Czech Republic also has some great places to go rock climbing, and this sports activity also enables tourists to enjoy panoramic views of the Czech Republic. Climbing the Adraipah-Teplice Rocks is a unique activity as you can trek across its unique terrain, which includes a combination of contorted canyon, sandstone pinnacles and interesting wildlife.
