Greece Travel Guide
Greece is a great melting pot of bustling cities with great nightlife alongside eye catching areas which are both exotic and tranquil. There are also many beach resorts where you can stroll along the white beaches and promenades. If you go further inland you are sure to find cultural spots where you can explore and venture into the Greek heritage.
Weather
The best time to visit Greece is during the summer months due to the warm Mediterranean climate. The hot dry days are usually calmed by the cooling breezes which are predominant within the north and coastal areas. However be warned that Athens can be extremely hot so it is best to visit the centre during the evenings until you acclimatise. The winter months are mild within the south yet can get quite bitter within the North. Also be warned that the rainy season takes place between November and March so work your holiday around these dates.
Greek Nightlife
The main towns in Greece offer a great nightlife ranging from clubs, bars and concerts. Athens contains many small tavernas within the Plaka areas as well as modern bars and clubs for the younger travellers within Psirri and Gazi. The beach clubs that play music on the sands of Voula, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza are unique to the country and take place during the summer months. Corfu, Zante and Rhodes are extremely popular with the teenage traveller due to their cheap alcohol and the nightclubs that carry on into the morning hours.
Beaches in Greece
Kefalonia attracts tourists due to its unspoilt sands and mountainous terrain. This is a reasonably unknown retreat so is perfect for a quiet getaway. Whilst certain areas such as Lassi, Skala and Argostoli can contain quite a few tourists, you can explore and unearth some of the unknown treasures that still remain. One of the greatest beaches is Mytos Bay which is a 1 mile shingle beach that overlooks turquoise water.
Some other places with great beaches are Kos with its green luscious land, the Afandou Beach upon the island of Rhodes as well as the Plati Gialos Beach which is on the glamorous island of Mykonos. These all provide different atmospheres – from relaxing to bustling – however all are guaranteed to produce something unique for the tourists who visit these Greek areas.
Greek Cuisine
There are many restaurants and tavernas which serve food that centres on olive oil and char grill cooking. However such areas as Mykonos and Santorini offer glamorous modern food within urban establishments. The usual restaurant hours are from 1200-1500 for lunch and then 2000-2400 for dinner. Some region specialities are stuffed vine leaves, Moussaka and Souvlaki – all are excellent dishes and definitely worth a try.
Greece has plenty to offer the tourists who visit the country. There are plenty of beach resorts for a relaxing break from the bustle of ordinary life. Here you can enjoy the cuisine and drink on offer around the country whilst enjoying the warm weather and exotic surroundings. Alongside these relaxing retreats, there are also cultural areas that are bustling with travellers due to containing night clubs, shopping malls and posh eateries.
