Things To Do
A great time to visit Alicante is during one of its festivals. One of the most popular celebrations is the Horueras de San Juan (St. John’s Bonfires). What makes people flock to the area for the week commencing the 20th of June is the massive party which takes place within the streets. There is plenty to eat and drink as well as great local entertainment. All this accumulates to a finale of burning statues late at night. Some other great festivals to visit are the Moros y Cristianos Festival and the Santa Faz Pilgrimage. The former provides everyone with a large fiesta during the 22nd to the 24th of April whilst the latter is a more religious affair which sees a vast amount of people descend upon the city centre.
There are a variety of great places to visit within Alicante such as the well-preserved Alicante Castle. As this looks out over the city, it is a great place to take in great views of the present day city as well as gain historical insight regarding 16th Century Alicante. Another popular activity is walking along the luscious green promenades during an evening. The most famous is the Explanada de Espana which stretches right round the marina.
Beaches in Alicante
During the summer, some of the most popular activities centre on the Alicante beaches. The Playa La Albufereta is a popular beach due to its white sand and picturesque surroundings. This beach also has a variety of water sports and a leisure platform for those looking for adventure. Another beach to visit during your stay should be the Playa Postiguet which is also close by to the city centre. This is quite a busy beach during the summer period due to its popularity with both tourists and locals. Other great finds along the Alicante shoreline are the Cala de la Palmera, popular for snorkelling, and the Playa de San Juan which is a big beach great for children.
Cuisine
The traditional Spanish cuisine is something to be tasted during your stay in Alicante. A great way to spend an evening with your friends and family is to enjoy the small dishes of tapas which are usually shared and enjoyed over conversation. Great produce which is included in the dishes are the abundance of luscious fruit and vegetables as a result of the city’s fertile land. Also due to its proximity to the Mediterranean Sea, fish plays a large part n the city’s diet such as shrimp, red mullet and cuttlefish.
