Something interesting
The Playa de la Albufereta also offers its visitors a slice of Alicante history. The area was once a harbour for the Roman area of Lusentum – which was the ancient origin of Alicante. There are a number of ruins along the beach and surrounding areas from this period in time. The name of the beach reflects this history as ‘albufera’ means a small coastal lake that has its own harbour – which is what the beach and waters used to be.
