Outside Activities
Bournemouth has seven miles of beautiful beaches which are generally warm all year round and have the highest sea temperatures within all of the UK. There are a number of activities you can enjoy upon the sands – you can recline in a hired beach hut, stroll along the traditional seaside pier or sit back in a deck chair and enjoy views of the Isle of Wight and the Purbecks. Bournemouth’s beaches offers its visitors a variety of water sports and children can also enjoy the family attractions on Pier Approach.
A unique outdoor activity to try is Yoga on the Beach which takes place on Boscombe beach. You can relax and tone your body with an instructor whilst enjoying clean fresh air and spectacular coastal views. You can also hire a bike on the East section of Bournemouth Pier and cycle along the paths which are situated along Boscombe Pier and the Sandbanks beach.
Festivals and Events
The Bournemouth Air Festival occurs each year along the seven miles of sand. This large event takes place over four days and the organisers put on quality flying displays for its viewes. The event also has many evening entertainments such as live music, markets and funfairs. This is a great day for all the family and is also free for all who visit.
Friday Family Fiestas is a summer event which takes places throughout July and August. Many families take to the streets of Bournemouth and enjoy the live acts and street performances on show. There are also fire displays in the Lower Gardens and an evening of fireworks on the final evening.
A festival which is both breathtaking and enchanting is the Candle Light Nights. This takes place throughout July and August in Bournemouth’s award-winning Lower Gardens. The greenery and flowers are illuminated by hundreds of tea lights and visitors can walk around the garden by the assistance of the flickering flames.
Shopping
Many people enjoy visiting the Bournemouth shops whilst they spend a weekend in the city. Westbourne is a luxurious district which has many designer outlets to peruse around. This area, which is known as ‘The Village’, also has many beauty stores and restaurants which you can enjoy after an exhausting day of shopping. Boscombe is perfect for those who want to explore unique boutiques for unusual and kooky gifts. There are also many antique stores to look through along Christchurch Road. For fashion outlets and lifestyle stores, you may want to visit Castlepoint or Castlemore – these are large shopping areas which have a wide array of shops to look around.
