Festivals and Events
Newquay has many teenagers and students descending upon its camping sites and beaches each year. The town has become a top holiday destination for youngsters who want to relax during the warmer months after they’ve finished studying. Many enjoy coming to the town to observe and partake in the Newquay Rip Curl Boardmaster festival. There are surfing championships along Fistral Beach where you can observe boarding experts upon the crashing waves.
The Run to the Sun Festival is another event which attracts many thousands of visitors to Newquay each year. Many VW enthusiasts come to view each other’s cars and camper vans. There are many different colours to observe with an abundance of unusual and wacky interiors. The Daphne du Maurier Festival also takes place in May and spans across ten days. Many live actors and musicians perform onstage to large crowds. You can also enjoy guided walks around the theatres and establishments that exist around the Newquay area.
Beaches
The beaches are one of the main tourist attractions within Newquay. The expanses of sand and the warm water of the Atlantic Ocean attract both tourists and locals during the spring and summer months. Fistra Beach is the most popular beach within Newquay as its golden sands and hollow waves makes it perfect for surfing fanatics. Town Beach is great for those who want to visit Newquay’s harbour, town centre and sands on a single day trip. You may also want to visit Tolcarne beach for a day out with the family as there are many colourful beach huts and the waters are great for surfing. Another spot which is perfect for water sports is Watergate Bay, the many miles of sands also means that it is great for an afternoon walk.
Family Activities
Newquay Zoo is the perfect place to spend a day out with the family. There are hundreds of different species and animals which exist within different terrains around the establishment. There is a Tropical House containing reptiles and snakes, a rainforest-style aviary, a petting zoo and a Tarzan Trail which contain many different exotic animals.
Families may also choose to visit the Blue Reef Aquarium which is situated next to Newquay’s seafront. An underwater tunnel provides customers with a unique insight into the world that exists beneath the sea. You can watch sharks and exotic fish swim above your head as you walk through these walkways. There are also regular talks at the tanks which display such creatures as seahorses, octopuses and stingrays.
