Sydney City Guide

Sydney is a bustling and lively metropolis and an excellent place to visit if you wish to sample the wide variety of culture that Australia has to offer. The city contains areas where you can enjoy the country’s art, fashion and cuisine. Moreover the miles of ocean coastline and beaches are great for exploring or relaxation. The city is also home to the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge – two of the most iconic structures within the country.

Some Places to Visit

Luna Park is an essential place to visit for the thrill seeking holiday maker. The large theme park which sits right next to the Sydney Harbour Bridge contains a large Ferris wheel which allows you to enjoy views across the entire city.  You can also enjoy a birds-eye view from the Sydney Tower which is the tallest structure in Sydney. Here you can enjoy a meal in the establishment’s restaurant whilst reclining and watching the bustle of the city pass by below.

There are also some historical areas you can visit to soak up the past of the city. If you stroll along Macquarie Street, you will see a whole host of sites such as the Conservatorium, Hyde Park Barracks and the first hospital in the colony. Walking from Manly to Middle Head will take you past the coastal artillery fortifications which were built during the late nineteenth century. There is also the Anzac War Memorial which commemorates those Australians who were lost during the war.

Aboriginal Australia

The Royal National Park has a variety of rock carvings which you can see if you catch the train and ferry to Cronulla and Bundeena. There are also examples in Kuringai National Park, Balls Head and Berry Island. The Rocks also exhibits Aboriginal art and you can purchase the contemporary pieces which are painted in the Aboriginal style. The Art Gallery of New South Wales also contains some items which you examine to learn more of Australia and its history.

Things To Do

There are many sporting activities to try whilst you are on holiday. At the many beaches such as Bondi, Manly or Coogee you can swim or surf in the waters. These are places which are known for their activities and are very popular with citizens and tourists alike.

Another popular water activity is the kayaking and canoeing which takes place along Sydney’s Waterway. Here you can explore the bush land, waterfront properties and the variety of wildlife along the fronts. There are many places where you can hire the boats and some companies also offer guided tours which enable you learn more about the area and its history.

You may also wish to visit the cinema whilst within Sydney – the City Centre and Moore Park which are the mainstream complexes. There are also many art houses such as Chauvel, Verona and Academy Twin cinemas.  For something a bit different, there is a drive-in cinema at Blacktown in the Outer West.

As Sydney is a bustling metropolis with a large variety of activities and sites, you will enjoy a jam-packed break away. Alongside containing natural spots of beauty, historical sites and iconic cultural areas, there are also long stretches of ocean and beaches where you can both relax and enjoy the exhilarating activities on offer.
