Vacation in Cala D’or Majorca

Cala D'or MajorcaCala D’or is a modern resort located on the Island of Majorca. Majorca is one of the Balearic Islands of Spain in the Mediterranean Sea. This modern resort was once a fishing village and although the resort has grown, the town of Cala D’or has kept the charm of a small village. Cala D’or is a perfect destination for a holiday if you are craving beautiful beaches and sandy coves.

Beaches

The largest beach you can visit is know as Cala Gran. This beach is closest to Cala D’or and is responsible for the resort’s name. If you would like to stay close to Cala D’or, and do not mind a crowded beach, Cala Gran would be the best beach to visit. For comfort and shade, there are places to rent lounging chairs and parasols.

When you feel the need to venture further from Cala D’or and would like a less crowded beach, there are plenty of other beaches to visit nearby. Take the morning bus to the beach of Es Trenc, and you will find yourself at a less crowded beach with fewer facilities. At Es Trenc, the water is clear blue and the beach is backed by pine trees and dunes.

Some other popular beaches and coves are Cala Esmeralda and Cala Ferrera. These two small but beautiful beaches offer a great selection of bars and restaurants.

Shopping & Restaurants

For shopping and eating, there is a lovely pedestrian zone near Cala Gran. To satisfy your hunger and thirst, there are cafes, restaurants and bars. The types of food that can be found in this area include Spanish, Italian, Mexican, Indian, Chinese and British.

At the harbor of Cala Llonga, you may find some higher class restaurants that specialize in seafood. The pedestrian zone also offers plenty of shops and boutiques where you can enjoy searching for typical souvenirs of clothes, ceramics, beach toys, beach wear, and handbags.

Activities

Activities available in Cala D’or include swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing and pedal boats. Be sure to check whether or not these activities are available at the specific beach you are traveling to. If tennis or golf interest you, these activities are also available at the resort.

If you do have access to transportation and would like to visit one of the best markets in Majorca, then you must travel to Felanitx. The Sunday morning market is a great place to find some beautiful local artwork including pottery. If you stay nearby until Wednesday, there is also a fresh produce market worth mentioning in Santanyi.

The night life in Cala D’or is fairly quiet with few bars open late for those who enjoy socializing in the evening. If you are searching for a place to party from night until morning, Disco Farrah’s near the supermarket of Caprabo is one of the few places you will enjoy. The town of Cala D’or is geared more towards those who need a quiet, relaxing vacation.

A vacation in Cala D’or will not leave you disappointed. The island of Majorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands, and you will be able to find activities that will suit anyone.
